The Education Necessary to Preserve Democracy Now Under Attack
Pensées on Human Life and Freedom
by William Baptiste SFO, Founder and Director, Human Rights and Freedoms Forever!
The History of Human Rights and Democracy IN BRIEF: Not new, “Pro-Choice” (“Pro-Choice-to-Kill-Humans”) Abortion Philosophy is fundamentally anti-human and anti-democratic and ruled in the brutal Ancient World where parents had the “Right to Choose” to raise or kill their children by abortion and governments similarly had the “Right to Choose” to enslave or kill their subjects because human life was cheap, before the “Pro-Life” (“Pro-Human-Right-to-Live”/”Pro-Human-Rights”) Principles including Personhood made society humane starting in the 4th Century because human lives without exception were then considered Persons having supreme and equal value the government was obligated to protect and thus “Pro-Choice” Abortion was criminalized in 318 AD laying the foundation for ALL the human rights and modern democratic freedoms which gradually developed ONLY within this “Pro-Life” context (of human life protected in the womb by law or custom since 318 AD) – simply because it is ONLY on the “Pro-Life” understanding that EVERY human life is EQUALLY PRECIOUS just for being HUMAN (despite our obviously unequal mental and physical traits in or out of the womb) that governments began to feel OBLIGATED to even start protecting ALL human lives, let alone give EACH human life (with manifestly unequal measurable abilities) an equal democratic say or vote in his or her own governance. Thus, naturally the first modern governments to abandon the “Pro-Life” Principles and de-criminalize Abortion were Soviet Russia in 1920 and Nazi Germany in 1934 – totalitarian States threatening the lives and freedoms of citizens just like those back when “Pro-Choice” Philosophy and legal Abortion were the ancient norm. The “Pro-Life” mindset naturally and logically developed gradually through history into modern human rights and freedoms for all precious humans but the “Pro-Choice” Abortion mindset by its internal logic necessarily must oppress the freedoms of those who object to killing humans, and recent developments in countries which ignorantly followed the Soviet and Nazi precedent and abandoned the “Pro-Life” Principles by de-criminalizing Abortion outlawed since the 4th Century, legally devaluing preborn human lives and taking away their previous legal Personhood and the preborn Human Right to Live, follow the same pattern as the early stages of the gradual loss of democracy in Germany after it similarly abandoned the “Pro-Life” Principles by similarly legally devaluing Jewish human lives and denying Jewish humans their previous legal Personhood and taking away the Jewish Human Right to Live. Just like those who stood up against killing legally devalued Jewish humans were persecuted too, those who stand up against killing legally devalued preborn humans by Abortion (and devalued “unproductive” elderly and sick and handicapped humans by Euthanasia) are being increasingly bullied into silence and persecuted by new “Pro-Choice” policies formally or informally threatening their jobs, funding or freedom. This makes many citizens of supposed Western democracies (especially medical professionals and teachers, and even government workers) RIGHT NOW AFRAID to speak openly at work their traditional, democracy-grounding belief in the equal precious value of every human without exception (including preborn humans) for fear of negative consequences, as in Nazi Germany many were similarly AFRAID to speak openly at work their SAME traditional, democracy-grounding belief in the equal precious value of every human without exception (including Jewish humans) for fear of negative consequences. The current ignorant age-discrimination bigotry against the humanity of preborn humans, just as much as the Nazi ignorant race-discrimination bigotry against the humanity of Jewish humans, denies the INHERENT HUMAN RIGHT TO LIVE which is the foundation of ALL human rights and freedoms, and has initiated the gradual end of democracy by the same many small stages as 1930s Germany (the gradual degradation of democracy only proceeding through these stages more slowly because our current Western politicians are dismantling (probably) by ignorance what the Nazis dismantled more quickly by design). The return of fundamentally anti-democratic “Pro-Choice” Philosophy has now brought Western Civilization to a critical “Tipping Point” and to protect democracy for the long-term all who love it must learn well this history of the “Pro-Life” Principles which all human rights and freedoms historically and logically depend upon and stand up in Solidarity for them against current worldwide “Pro-Choice” trends of “Creeping Totalitarianism” (voting accordingly while we still can) – since it is appropriate that democracies which want to remain democracies for the long-term hold their politicians accountable to The “Pro-Life” Foundational Principles of Human Rights and Democracy (as they did not in 1930s Germany, when they instead voted into power a government which manifestly did not believe all humans WITHOUT EXCEPTION were EQUALLY PRECIOUS, and this government lived its principles among other bigoted policies by de-criminalizing Abortion (and Euthanasia) – which cancelled any Inherent Human Right to Live and thus removed the underlying “Pro-Life” / “Pro-Human-Right-to-Live” Foundation of Human Rights and Democracy Laid in 318 AD with the original criminalization of Abortion, which is why the Nazis at Nuremberg in 1948 were condemned specifically for Legal Abortion they encouraged mothers to ask for, which was then sensibly described as “an inhumane act,” an “act of extermination” and a “crime against humanity” because (as the Universal Declaration of Human Rights declared the same year) human rights are for ALL humans “without distinction of any kind” because “recognition of the inherent dignity and of the equal and inalienable rights of ALL members of the human family is the foundation of freedom, justice and peace in the world.” Those who do not learn the lessons of history are doomed to repeat its mistakes: Those Western democracies which ignorantly followed the totalitarian Soviet and Nazi precedent of de-criminalizing Abortion (legally cancelling the Inherent Human Right to Live) are naturally losing their democratic character and becoming increasingly totalitarian (the de-criminalization of abortion being actually the third “wrong turn” on Western Civilization’s path leading to the current insidious dismantling of Democracy, which was prepared for by two previous “wrong turns” discussed in the later chapters of this treatise).
This treatise continues to be developed in consultation with other scholars. But to get this important content in defense of our threatened democracies “out there” to as many as possible as quickly as possible, the first 4 of the 9 Chapters of Draft 2.3 are available on this website through “The Treatise” Tab and the following links (a full copy of the latest Draft may be requested by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org Subject Line: Latest Draft Treatise).
Note: The treatise has since been used as the basis of the (much shorter than the full 9 Chapter treatise) , which encapsulates many (not all) of the key insights of the longer treatise. To make sure this important basic educational content for ensuring Human Rights and Democracy last long-term is readily available worldwide to combat “Creeping Totalitarianism” worldwide (and in YOUR country), no matter how bad things get where YOU live, early drafts of the different main sections of Democracy 101 are also available on this website: The Introduction to Human Rights and Freedoms Forever!; The Pledge of Allegiance to Democracy; and The New Abolitionist Manifesto of Solidarity.
Please note YOU can help produce a polished, professionally edited version of Democracy 101 (and other key educational documents like The Education Necessary to Preserve Democracy Now Under Attack) and help promote them by becoming a patron of Human Rights and Freedoms Forever! at https://www.patreon.com/humanrightsandfreedomsforever or considering other donation options listed at Donations for Democracy http://protecthumanrightsandfreedoms.ourchur.ch/donations-for-democracy

Notes on Draft 2 and its Urgent Distribution Because of “Creeping Totalitarianism” Now Suddenly On the March
Western Civilization stands today at a critical “tipping point” in its history where we can either 1) lose our Western democracies to the “Creeping Totalitarianism” unwittingly introduced when de-criminalized abortion and the return of ancient and ultimately totalitarian “Pro-Choice” (“Pro-Choice-to-Kill-Humans”) philosophy legally negated any Inherent Human Right to Live (the Foundation of all Human Rights and Freedoms); or else we can 2) preserve Democracy for the long-term by shoring up its badly eroded “Pro-Life” (“Pro-Human-Right-to-Live”) foundations by constitutionally enshrining the historic Foundational Principles of Human Rights and Democracy (which establish EQUAL human preciousness WITHOUT EXCEPTION) and ensuring future generations are properly educated in these principles and their history and logic in Western thought which ultimately gave us our human rights and freedoms, so that we no longer by small stages gradually and unwittingly disintegrate the foundations of our whole free and democratic way of life in our ignorance.
I believe it is critical that voters in all democracies NOW start thinking according to this “education necessary to preserve democracy now under attack” before our democracies are compromised by the return of ancient and ultimately totalitarian “Pro-Choice” philosophy any further. So I cannot wait until this treatise is “perfect” and formally published for people to learn this powerful argument in defense of democracy and the traditional values which democracy historically and logically depends on.
This urgency is spurred by the fact that in the national and regional jurisdiction in which I live the worldwide “Creeping Totalitarianism” trend ignorantly destroying democracy from its foundations is no longer moving at a “creeping” pace but has seen four massive assaults on democracy in 2015 alone, in new policies which advance “Pro-Choice” (“Pro-Choice-to-Kill-Humans”) philosophy specifically in violation of the free choice of citizens to follow the traditional values which gave us human rights and freedoms in the first place – guarding as precious ALL human life and the process which generates it (for details see Appendix I for my article “Creeping Totalitarianism” No Longer Just “Creeping:” 4 Major Assaults on Democracy in 2015 Alone Where Author Lives).
With democracy thus falling apart all around me right from its historic “Pro-Life”/ “Pro-Human-Right-to-Live” foundations, distribution of this treatise cannot wait for perfection (but even with Draft 2’s imperfections one philosophy professor who reviewed it wrote “I love the content of the book and especially your writing style. The individual sentence construction flows easily and is readily understandable. The topics are obviously important and your book is worth publishing”). Thus while I am continuing to develop this reflective treatise in consultation with other scholars I am distributing Draft 2 (with Chapters 6, 7 and 8 and parts of Chapter 1 only first draft – and some bits quite rough) in order to start people thinking along these lines which may be our best hope to save democracy in the long run, so we can stop being severely uncomfortable with massive social and legal changes to traditional values but being very unsure of what to do about it and even so often afraid to speak out about it (which proves the serious danger democracy is in, if so many, especially in the medical and educational fields, already feel they cannot speak freely at work their beliefs in the traditional values that our democracies were built upon without their jobs or funding being threatened).
Note to Scholars and Appeal for More Scholarly Work Using This Treatise’s Fruitful “Broad Perspective” on Western Civilization In the Service of the Continuation of Human Rights and Freedoms
I did not write this treatise for scholars, but for average people to be able to understand it and hopefully get from it “the education necessary to preserve democracy now under attack.” But I welcome feedback from scholars to improve this education by making it more compelling and unassailable, “filling in any gaps,” in the cause of the humanity we all share which has been so seriously devalued, resulting in the compromise of democracy which depends historically and logically on human life being so precious the government is always obligated to protect it. I most certainly am wholly inadequate to successfully defend democracy all on my own, so I need to collaborate with other scholars (more qualified than I in their respective fields) to make this education necessary to keep our freedom long-term the best it can be, and distribute it most effectively. Many of the elements of this treatise are not new – I believe part of what makes the argument already, I believe, largely compelling and unassailable, is that it is put together from mostly well-known (at least to scholars) and undisputed historical and scientific facts, logically connected – I trust laying bare the “golden threads” that in logical development through history produced our modern human rights and freedoms so they are now easily discernible within the great morass of historical details. Certainly I have never seen these individually well-known things put together into what I believe is a comprehensive yet simple, accessible, and powerful presentation like this before. Thus, I believe that in this treatise I have identified an extremely fruitful approach for new studies and some extremely fruitful areas for further scholarly research and the further reflection of scholars (as mine here) in defense of our free and democratic way of life which is currently buckling under serious threats because no structure can last long without its foundations, now so badly eroded. To this end I offer to scholars this treatise’s broad vantage point or perspective keeping in view the whole development of Western Civilization which I believe makes it so obvious that the return of Pro-Choice philosophy and the Pro-Choice right of parents to CHOOSE to raise or kill their own children is a decidedly backwards step that can only take us back ultimately to the oppressive totalitarianism of ancient times when Pro-Choice philosophy first guided Western values (and has already made a good start on this regression in the several current uncomfortable compromises of democracy which motivated this treatise).
“Pro-Life 2.0” – The “Pro-Life” (or “New Abolitionist”) Movement Is No Longer Just About Saving Preborn Human Lives Threatened by Legal Abortion, But Also About Saving Democracy Itself Which is Threatened by Legal Abortion Which Cancels the EQUAL Human Right to Live, and Live Free, For Which the Original Abolitionists Opposed Legal Slavery
This treatise is effectively the “manifesto” of what my dear Bride and I call “Pro-Life 2.0,” which upgrades the Pro-Life Movement to “the next level.” “Pro-Life” is no longer just about saving baby human lives threatened by abortion – it is also about saving democracy itself which is seriously threatened by legal abortion which logically means our governments no longer legally recognize any inherent preciousness to human life which obligates the State to always protect and ultimately serve human lives – but democracy historically and logically depends upon all human lives being recognized as so immensely valuable that they not only should always be protected from harm, but they even deserve a democratic say in their own government. Every oppressive totalitarian State in history agrees with Pro-Choice philosophy that human life is NOT intrinsically precious and is NOT always to be protected by the State but can be killed when deemed “inconvenient.” The original Abolitionists called for the abolition of legal slavery/the Slave Trade because it violated the supreme and equal value of every human life without exception which democracy is built on; “Pro-Lifers” are the “New Abolitionists” calling for the abolition of legal abortion/the Abortion Industry for precisely the same reasons.
Draft 2 Notes and Human Rights and Freedoms Forever!
I added the subtitle Pensées on Human Life and Freedom to indicate that the current draft is largely a collection of hundreds of insightful pensées or thoughts on the facts of history and science, together repeating key things but also building out from the key points in different ways, arranged in a more or less logical progression which I believe together forms a solid and impregnable education in defense of our democracies. A future professionally edited draft will focus the draft and reduce its length and repetition, but in the meantime the importance of this “education necessary to preserve democracy now under attack” being learned by as many as possible as soon as possible so they can help start turning the tide against the current rapid decay of our democracies has led me to distribute the draft in its current form (as well as to teach it in lecture series). Note that repetition is good pedagogy (teaching theory) so the current repetition of key points is not entirely a defect – I guarantee readers will remember the most vital things!
Part of the reason that I have been unable so far to complete and polish this treatise is because of the four major assaults on democracy in 2015 alone where I live (described in Appendix I). These new developments are actually reminiscent of the 1917 Mexico situation where policies similarly restricting religious freedom of some citizens and similarly enforcing anti-traditional public “education” in anti-traditional values (opposed to the traditional values human rights and freedoms were built on) were passed – heralding the open violent government persecution of Mexicans who believed in the traditional principles foundational to human rights and democracy less than a decade later in 1926. These, and similar threats in other Western countries which herald the eventual end of democracy if they are not effectively opposed, have necessitated that an educated and coordinated grassroots response to current threats to human life, religious freedom, and democracy itself begin as soon as possible, leading me to found the brand-new non-profit educational organization Human Rights and Freedoms Forever!, which among other things promotes my new Pledge of Allegiance to Democracy as a tool much shorter than this treatise but based on its key insights. Freedom-lovers can read, take, and spread The Pledge of Allegiance to Democracy (and the Antidote to Any Degree of “Creeping Totalitarianism”) until there is in each compromised Western democracy a “critical mass” of educated citizens who know where their human rights and freedoms come from, and what they need to last, who in democratically significant numbers can demand that their elected representatives shore up democracy’s badly eroded foundations so that human rights for all humans and the logically following freedoms for all humans can last forever.
Even in its current form this Draft 2 imparts a whole mindset or WAY OF THINKING about human rights and democratic freedoms from their historic “First Principles” and the logical development from these principles through history which gave them to us, a mindset, that if enough people have, will guarantee human rights and freedoms continue for the long term (it is possible that this current collection of pensées or thoughts as such, for those motivated to read its length, might better train the mind to consistently THINK in these fruitful terms than the future professionally edited, shortened, and published edition will!) Audio recordings of the lectures will eventually be made available (see http://protecthumanrightsandfreedoms.ourchur.ch for developments in the distribution of this “Education Necessary to Preserve Democracy Now Under Attack” and in the Doctors for Democracy movement based on its teaching).
[Stylistic Note: I apologize if some find my use of several different forms of emphasis such as bold, italic, capitals and coloured fonts unusual or distracting. Of course following convention, a future professionally published edition will not use these, but they are in this second draft for educational purposes partly as my way of putting into print the (dynamic) verbal emphasis I would use in an oral lecture (to deliver the content in a more engaging way). Knowing that in our “sound bite” generation and fast-paced society many people are not likely to read a lengthy treatise entirely, no matter how important it is to learn its subject matter, I thus distribute this with such varying ways of emphasizing important facts and points (in combination with the repetition of key ideas) to help ensure that even a cursory or partial glance at this treatise conveys important information for helping protect our democracies, and (I hope) this use of emphasis will make it easier to scan or skim the treatise and still learn the most important facts or arguments to be used to defend democracy. Still it is recommended that people who are seriously concerned about where our Western societies are heading and really want to do something about it will read this Draft 2 scholar’s reflection entirely and hopefully find in it the Education Necessary to Preserve Democracy Now Under Attack.]
